in a surprise move, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today he will not seek re-election. The two-term mayor says he wants to spend time with his wife of 27 years.
“I’ve decided not to seek re-election,” said Emanuel. “This has been the job of a lifetime, but it is not a job for a lifetime.”
Under Emanuel, Chicago police have proved unable to reduce the number of murders. The CPD Murder Clearance Rate is a dismal 8%. According to the FBI, that is 60% below the national average.
To date in Chicago there have been 336 people Shot & Killed; 1759 Shot & Wounded; 2095 People Shot; and a Total of 394 Homicides.
During his two terms in office, Rahm has failed to provide solutions to the Pension crisis including the underfunded police employee pensions.
Rahm closed 50 public schools primarily on the South and West sides, where his disparate use of the city’s Fast Track Demolition of Structures policy created thousands of vacant lots.
Under Rahm Emanuel Chicago has seen record property taxes.
A Chicago Tribune investigation revealed the mayor and his CPS Board have failed to keep children safe from sexual abuse.
