A resolute Virginia suburbanite vote gave Democrats control of both Legislative houses for the first time in a generation.
Democrats flipped at least 2 seats in the Senate and at least 5 seats in the House of Delegates to gain a majority in both legislative chambers. This election confirms Virginia’s political transition, from red state to blue state.
Both of Virginia’s U.S. Senators, a majority of their congressional delegation and all three statewide elected officials are Democrats. Democrat candidates have dominated the last three presidential elections. Republicans have not won a statewide contest since 2009.
The unusually high voter turnout clearly sent a strong signal to President Trump.
