Protests Topple Oppressive Images. Always Have Always Will.
For years, Peaceful Americans have been begging governments and institutions to eliminate the racists symbols and images that remind us of the Confederacy – criminals who attacked the government in an effort to continue slavery. However, these powers have been unyielding in the face of peaceful demands for action.
If anyone thinks that Protesters, anywhere on this planet, are going to wait forever for something offensive to be removed, they are mistaken. That much patience is not in the Protester DNA.
History is replete with examples. The Boston Tea Party, the downing of statues of Lenin, Hitler, Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein. The people tearing down the Berlin Wall.
Some believe Protesters who topple images of oppression are criminals engaging in a violent act. However, if we are to advance as a nation, and begin the healing, we must empathize with protesters who have become intolerant of the oppressive images and symbols. Particularly those symbols which pay tribute to enslavers who attempted to overthrow the government and caused the death of 660,000 people.
There are those who insist on holding on to the past. But keep in mind, we are talking about statues most have probably never seen or noticed, removed by people who potentially dread having to see them every day. Some people value the concept of a tribute to some long gone figure more than they feel the pain it causes their contemporaries.
In the bible GOD says: If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
